12/07/11  Environmental fate of nano silver
Cherrie Whiteley has recently contributed a paper titled 'Challenges in assessing the environmental fate and exposure of nano silver', to the proceedings of Nanosafe2010: International Conference on Safe Production and Use of Nanomaterials (16-18 November 2010, Grenoble - France) . This has just been published on the Journal of Physics: Conference Series (Cherrie M Whiteley et al 2011 J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. 304 012070 doi: 10.1088/1742-6596/304/1/012070).
Owing to the lack of information on their use and potential pathways and sinks in the environment, there are significant challenges in assessing the fate and exposure of nano particles (NPs). The paper provides a case study of nanosilver used in products within the UK and estimated environmental release. For more information, the URL of this paper is:

18/03/10  UK Nano Strategy launched
The UK Government Nanotechnologies Strategy has now been published setting out how the governements plans to ensure that everyone safely benefit from the societal and economic opportunities that these technologies offer.

30/10/05 UK Government advised on a Nano Silver review. The Advisory Committee on Hazardous Substances, a scientific advisory body to the UK Environment Ministry, has published a report on nanosilver. The report calls for the development of a longer term research strategy for nanosilver.
